1.  OA01.11. Toxicity study and testicular regeneration property of swarna vanga

Purpose:
Swarna-Vanga (SV) is a famous Kupipakva metallic preparation, which are therapeutically used as rejuvenator, anti-diabetic, and for testicular regeneration (Spermatogenesis) etc since 18th century. It contains Parad (mercury-Hg), Vanga (tin-Sn) and Gandhaka (Sulphur-S) in major amounts and our ancient author use different proportion of mercury in SV with respect to tin. So, in present study an attempt has been made to evaluate testicular regeneration property of SV with its safety and efficacy on albino rats.
Method:
1. Pharmaceutical Study: Preparation of SV in different proportion of Sn:Hg as 1:1,1:1/2, 1:1/4, 1:1/6. 2. Experimental Study: a) Toxicity study of SV for short (14 days) and long(40 days) duration in different doses, b) Regeneration property of SV on induced CdCl2 (Cadmium Chloride) testicular germinal epithelium of albinorats.
Result:
SV is a metallic preparation which contains mercury, tin and sulphur in major amount and the best product of SV is made by half of the mercury with the tin. SV does not show any toxic effects on therapeutic dose (12.5-25 gm/body weight of albino rats) but show some toxic effects on higher dose in longer duration. The ability of SV in generation of testicular germinal epithelium is seen on partial damaged testis which is produced by inducing CdCl2.
Conclusion:
1) The presence of mercury at least in half proportion to tin in is necessary in making the SV of good standards, 2) SV is not toxic in therapeutic dose and is slightly toxic on higher doses in long duration, 3) SV has the property to regenerate partially damaged testicular tissue.

3.  THE ROLE OF GANDHKA JARANA IN THE PREPARATION OF SAMGUNA AND SADAGUNA RASA SINDURA

Rasa sindura, is a famous and prestigious Ayurvedic Preparation, prepared by Kupipakwa method through Baluka Yantra system of healing. It is supposed as a toxic drug due to presence of Mercury. Therefore, it needs experimental proves and such type of experimental study shows that there are no toxic effects in therapeutic doses. Gamdhaka Jarana process reduces the unwanted effects, along with potentiating its diseases curing capacity.

4.  TLC AS A TOOL FOR STANDARDISATION OF AYURVEDIC FORMULATIONS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO KUTAJARISHTA

In ancient days, Physicians having the comprehensive knowledge of Bhaishajya Kalpana, used to prepare the drugs themselves to treat their patients. So there was no doubt in obtaining genuine drug with desired therapeutic effect. But in recent years, the growing population and their life style, industrialization etc have forced physicians to depend on market preparations. As such we find the necessity of standardization of these preparations. The quality assessments of a drug, which is a chemical irrespective of the system is possible by ‘Thin Layer Chromatographic technique’ using known Chemical constituents as reference standards. A herbal preparation ‘Kutajarishta’, has been standardized by using this technique and the significance of the findings is discussed.

5.  ROLE OF DIFFERENT CONTAINERS AND METHODS ON ALCOHOLIC PREPARATIONS WITH REFERENCE TO KUTAJARISTA

The role of different types of containers and methods of preparation was studied in the case of Kutajarista. Stainless steel containers were found to be superior of vessels made of earth and wood. Addition of yeast generated more alcohol facilitating better extraction of chemicals. The significance of the findings is discussed.

8.  CONCEPT OF AYURVEDIC SODHANA METHOD AND ITS EFFECTS WITH REFERENCE TO SULPHUR

SODHANA, which literally means purification, is a procedure necessary for every drug before taking it for adding in any compound or subjecting it for further processes like Bhasmikarana (incineration) etc. Purified drug in the lines of modern science is different from, that of Ayurveda as the former is cent percent the main drug only and latter may contain other particles also. Present paper gives the details of Sodhana along with such methods practically done on Sulphur
