1.  Anti-atherogenic Action of “Cardipro” - A Herbal Proprietary Formulation
Ancient Science of Life  2001;20(4):81-85.
The objective of this study as to determine the anti-atherogenic effect of cardiproa poly herbal cardiotonic which primarily contains the standardized extracts of Terminalia arjuna, Ocimum sanctum, Boerhaavia diffusa, Emblica officinalis and withania somnifera. For this purpose, 24 adult wistar albino rats were equally divided into 4 groups. Group I acted as control, Group 2 received individually cholesterol 100mg/kg dissolved in vegetable oil (4mg/ml) orally daily for 30 days. Group 3 received cardiPro 25 mg/kg body weight individually orally dissolved in distilled water daily for 30 days in combination with cholesterol as in group2, wile group 4 instead received Cardipro @ 50mg/kg body weight along with cholesterol. It was found that plasma total lipid, cholesterol, low density lipids, very low density lipids, triglycerides as well as aortic cholesterol contents were higher in cholesterol fed rats in comparison to health controls. Treatment with Cardipro significant; reduced the levels of these blood lipid profiles suggesting anti-atherogenic action of cardipro in rats. This was further strengthened b histopathological examination of Aorta in which the cholesterol fed rats treated with Cardipro @ 50% mg/kg body weight revealed only occasional presence of fat in the medial coat and intact elastic fibres in contrest to marked elevations and depressions I the tunica intima associated muscles of medical coat and disruption of elastic fibres in only cholesterol fed rats.

2.  PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIONS OF CARDIPRO ON CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM
Ancient Science of Life  1998;18(1):64-77.
CARDIPRO is a polyhedral anti-oxidant and cardiotonic formulation recommended to be used in various cardiovascular disturbances, effect of CARDIPRO on different in vitro and in vivo cardiovascular responses were studied. CARDIPRO produced hypotensive effect in dogs and rabbits. The effect was blocked by prior atropinization, CARDIPRO also potentiated and prolonged the beta receptor mediated hypotensive action of adrenaline in dogs. CARDIPRO was found to produce peripheral vasodilation in perfused frog blood vessels, CARDIPRO exerted positive ionotrpic and negative chronotropic effects on perfused amphibian and mammalian heart (isolated and in situ) it also produced transient positive ionotrpic effect on hypodynamic frog hert. CARDIPRO enhanced the amplitude of contractive response of isolated rat auricle. CARDIPRO did not produce an per se effect on electrocardiogram of rabbits, CARDIPRO enhanced both basal and maximum coronary perfusion flow in isolated perfused rabbi hert. The cardiotonic properly of CARDIPRO along with its peripheral and coronary vasodiating effects may greatly help in management of carediovascular diseases.

3.  ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFICACY OF A POLYHERBAL FORMULATION YOUTHEN ON REPRODUCTIVE PERFORMANCE OF MALE RATS
Ancient Science of Life  1997;17(1):56-66.
YOUTHEN is a polyherbal formulation. The present was designed to establish the effect of YOUTHEN on androgenic and reproductive parameters of male albino rats. YOUTHEN at lower dose stimulated the haemopoietic function significantly. Higher dose of YOUTHEN significantly enhanced the sperm count, forward motility index and metabolic activity of tech spermatozoa of the experimental animals as compared to that of the control rats with marked improvement in sexual behaviour. The weight of accessory sex glands were increased on YOUTHEN treated rats. Concentrations of total protein and phosphomonoesterases were significantly higher, while the concentration of cholesterol in testicular tissues was lower in YOUTHEN treated rats as compared to placebo control group. The results of the present experiment lead to conclude that YOUTHEN increased the libido as well as the quality and quantity of spermatozoa in laboratory animals. The effects of YOUTHEN on haemopoietic system and on the primary and accessory sex organs suggest that the product may have androgenic effect.

4.  IMMUNOPOTENTIATION BY IMMU 21 IN IMMUNOCOMPROMISED RATS
Ancient Science of Life  1997;16(3):200-205.
IMMU -21 a polyherbal immunomodulator effectively enhanced the immune status of animals treated with cytotoxic and immunosuppressive agents like cyclophosphamide and azathioprine. Leucopenia, lymphopenia and neutropenia in rats induced by cyclophosphamide were significantly minimized in IMMU-21 pre treated animals. IMMU-21 strengthened the host immune status against bacterial endotoxin. Cell mediated immune response was also found to be maintained at the normal level in immunocompromised mice treated with IMMU 21. The results of the experiments are of immense clinical significance IMMU -21 shows promise as a useful immunoadjuvant which may have various therapeutic applications.

5.  EFFECT OF IMMUE-21 ON MURINE PERITONEAL MACROPHAGES AND SPLENIC LYMPHOCYTES
Ancient Science of Life  1996;15(4):250-253.
Effect of Immue-21 (an herbal immunomodulator) was studied on different immunopharmacological models. Immue-21 significantly enhanced the mobilization and functional capacity of peritoneal macrophages of experimental animals. An elevated blastofenic response of splenic lymphocytes was observed in Immue-21 treated mice. The potential to modulate the immunity in general by Immue-21 assumes considerable therapeutic and/or prophylactic significance.
