1.  Combination of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicinal Herbs in Treating Model Rats With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome 
We explored the effects of combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs in treating model rats with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and to explore whether acupuncture has positive effects on the absorption of salvianolic acid B in the extracts of a Chinese medicine formula when treating the model rats. 60 female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into Groups A, B, C, D, E and F, with ten rats in each group. Except Group F, all of the other rats were induced to PCOS with oral administration of letrozole. The rats in Group F served as normal controls. Group A was treated with acupuncture. Group B was treated with oral administration of the extracts of the Chinese medicine formula. Group C was treated with a combination of oral administration of the extracts of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. Group D received western medicine as positive controls. After treatment, the serum levels of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone(LH) and testosterone (T) in each group were detected with the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA) and the serum concentration of salvianolic acid B were determined using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The serum levels of T and the ratio of LH/FSH in Group A, B. C, D, and F were significantly lower than those of Group E, indicating the model rats with PCOS were successfully established. Compared with Groups A, B, D and E, the serum levels of T and the ratio of LH/FSH in Group C were significantly lower respectively, indicating combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs can significantly enhance curative effects in treating model rats with PCOS. The concentration of serum salvianolic acid Group C was significantly higher than Group B, indicating that acupuncture might improve the absorption of salvianolic acid B from the extracts of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge in the Chinese medicine formula. Combination of acupuncture and Chinese medicinal herbs significantly enhance curative effects in treating model rats with PCOS and acupuncture has positive effects in improving the absorption of salvianolic acid B in the extracts of the Chinese medicine formula when treating the model rats with PCOS.

2.  Chemical and Ecological Evaluation of a Genuine Chinese Medicine: Atractylodes Macrocephala Koidz 
The study was designated to complete a chemical and ecological evaluation of a genuine Chinese medicine Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz (A. macrocephala) and to explore the existence of correlation between chemical ingredients of different A. macrocephala populations and ecological factors. Different samples of A. macrocephala collected from six Chinese habitats were analyzed using chemical and ecological methods. The results showed the bioactive ingredients of A. macrocephala to be closely related to ecological factors. The study can serve the purposes of preservation and development of genuine Chinese medicines.

3.  Comparison of Anti-Inflammatory and Anti-Nociceptive Activities of Curcuma Wenyujin Y.H. Chen et C. Ling and Scutellaria Baicalensis Georgi 
The study aimed to compare the anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive activities of Curcuma wenyujin Y.H. Chen et C. Ling (Curcuma wenyujin) and Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (Scutellaria baicalensis). This study used three parts to compare the two herbs. Firstly, animals were randomly divided into a Scutellaria baicalensis group, a Curcuma wenyujin group, an indomethacin group, and a model-control group to perform an ear edema test, a carrageenin-induced paw edema test, a cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation test, and an acetic acid-induced writhing test. Secondly, model rats with pelvic inflammation were established, and the serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in each group was detected with the Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). Thirdly, pharmacokinetics analysis of Scutellaria baicalensis and Curcuma wenyujin was conducted on the model rats. The ear edema test, carrageenin-induced paw edema test, cotton pellet-induced granuloma formation test, and acetic acid-induced writhing test all showed that Curcuma wenyujin had stronger anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive effects than Scutellaria baicalensis. There is significant difference between the effects of Curcuma wenyujin and Scutellaria baicalensis on the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 for the model rats. Curcuma wenyujin decreased the levels of TNF-α and IL-6 more than Scutellaria baicalensis. The pharmacokinetics analysis showed that curcumol's Tmax, Cmax, and the area under the curve (AUC) were all higher than baicalin's. This study indicated that for pelvic inflammation, Curcuma wenyujin had better anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive effects than Scutellaria baicalensis.

4.  Treating Gynaecological Disorders with Traditional Chinese Medicine: A Review 
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has significant advantages in treating gynaecological disorders. The paper has provided a brief introduction on the current progress of treating some gynaecological disorders including endometriosis, infertility, dysmenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding, premenstrual syndrome, menopausal syndrome, uterine fibroids, chronic pelvic inflammation, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), cervicitis and vaginitis with Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) and acupuncture. The use of TCM in the field of assisted reproductive techniques (ART) has also been included in the review. In addition, thirty-two commonly used Chinese medicinal formulas in treating gynaecological disorders have been introduced.

5.  Whether Co-Administration of Garlic has Negative Influence on Scutellaria Baicalensis Georgi in Treating Models Rats with Pelvic Inflammation? 
The research was to explore whether co-administration of garlic has negative influence on Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi (Scutellaria baicalensis) in treating models rats with pelvic inflammation. Twelve model rats were randomized into a Scutellaria baicalensis group and a Scutellaria baicalensis+garlic group with six in each group for pharmacokinetic analysis. Twenty-four rats were randomized into a Scutellaria baicalensis group, a Scutellaria baicalensis+garlic group, a model control group and a normal control group with six rats in each group for detecting the serum levels of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The results showed that in the Scutellaria baicalensis group, the maximum concentration (Cmax) of baicalin, area under the plasma concentration-time curve (AUC) and the time to Cmax (Tmax) were significantly higher and apparent clearance (CL/F) were significantly lower than those of Scutellaria baicalensis+garlic group. The serum levels of TNF-α and IL-6 in the Scutellaria baicalensis group were both significantly lower than Scutellaria baicalensis+garlic group. It was then concluded that garlic not only had negative influence on the absorption of active compounds in Scutellaria baicalensis, but decreased the curative effects of Scutellaria baicalensis in treating model rats with pelvic inflammation. Garlic should not be co-administered with Scutellaria baicalensis.

6.  Genetic Analysis of Aralia Cordata Thunb by RAPD 
In the research, genetic analysis of Aralia cordata Thunb. (Araliaceae) was conducted using randomly amplified polymorphism DNA (RAPD). 161 loci were detected with 12 RAPD primers. Percentage of Polymorphic Band (PPB) varied from 34.78% to 63.35%. All the samples were respectively collected from the eight provinces richest in Aralia cordata Thunb resources in China, including Hunan, Yunnan, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangxi, Anhui, Shanxi and Gansu. The results showed that Hunan Province enjoyed the highest level of genetic differentiation and Gansu was the lowest. The total genetic diversity (HT) of RAPD, intraspecific genetic diversity (HS) and genetic diversity (DST) of the various places was respectively 26.33%, 11.14%, and 49.36%. The differentiation among the species accounted for 98.76% of total genetic diversity (GST). Based on the cluster results of genetic distance, the 8 samples were classified into three groups. It is concluded that Hunan Province enjoyed the highest level of genetic differentiation of Aralia cordata Thunb and Gansu was the lowest, which provides a basis for the taxonomic identification and germplasm resource research of Aralia cordata Thunb in the future.
