It gives me immense pleasure to write a review for the book's 4th edition authored by Aruchamy Lakshmanaswamy. At the outset, I must congratulate the author for the feat already achieved in bringing out the 4th edition of the book. It goes without saying how popular the earlier editions must have been among the intended readers and users of the book.

Built on the foundations laid down in the previous three editions, I can see that there is a vast improvement in explaining the various aspects of clinical pediatrics in a simple and lucid manner with plenty of charts, tables, and color photographs in a systematic fashion. It will enable easy registration and recall of the facts to the readers guiding the decision-making process on the bedside. Such presentation of facts in such a systematic and easy to remember fashion will immensely benefit undergraduate and postgraduate trainees and their teachers in pediatrics and also the practicing pediatricians.

This edition includes relevant recent advances in pediatrics which will stimulate the budding pediatrician's thinking abilities and further nurture their inquisitive minds to explore more. New clinical photographs in multicolor format with clarity in highlighting clinical details, flow charts, imaging pictures, and illustrations need special mention. In my opinion, it will go a long way to help the undergraduate trainees to remove their initial fear about the subject called pediatrics and prepare them well for the examinations they would face, help postgraduates to consolidate their knowledge base to go to the next level, and will impart practical tips to the practicing pediatricians.

Authors attempt to retain, expand, and refurbish the topics already covered in the previous editions in the light of recent advances made in the field of pediatrics in the 4th edition which need special mention. Important hot topics in pediatrics are updated with equal enthusiasm by the author in an attempt to give an edge to the readers by helping them to keep updated with the changing concepts which in turn will become handy in making practical and evidence-based decision-making on the bedside.

Chapter on newborn written in a simple and practical way will be immensely beneficial and it will promote the understanding of the basic and advanced principles of newborn care from the time the baby is born. Similarly, the chapter on arterial blood gas will be a step in the right direction to bring the book to the bedside. Many more new additions to the 4th edition (breastfeeding; managing the child with rickets; connective tissue disorders; adolescence; sexual maturity rating; and disorders of the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and hematopoietic systems, to name a few) will make it appealing to the candidates who wish to pursue a career in specialty pediatrics.

I congratulate Dr. Lakshamanaswamy for his sincerest effort to bring out the book which I am sure will be accepted as the standard textbook of pediatrics, a one-stop solution to all aspects of care of a newborn and a child in all stages of teaching, training, and practicing in pediatrics.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely
