It is with great pleasure that the Allergy & Rhinology Editorial Board and I submit this first complete issue. Allergy & Rhinology is a quarterly, open-access, web-based, peer-reviewed journal published under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC 3.0 license. Our intended audience is the worldwide community of physicians and medical researchers involved in diagnosing and treating allergic and otolaryngologic disease, or in investigating the normal and pathophysiologic processes underlying these conditions. Although our main focus will be on original research papers, we hope to also provide a platform for selected case reports, pilot studies, abstracts of work presented at academic meetings, and occasional review articles or commentaries.
Working closely with our sister journals, Allergy and Asthma Proceedings and the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy, we have come to realize that many quality papers that are worthy of publication may have to be rejected from traditional print journals because of space and economic considerations. One advantage of Allergy & Rhinology is that we are less affected by these restrictions given our low cost of online-only distribution. It is our hope that this new opportunity will encourage a wide range of submissions, including work from residents and fellows who have some research to report or interesting cases that they would like to share with us (with appropriate literature review and discussion). In this inaugural issue, we are fortunate to have original research papers from respected international investigators, several case reports, an environmental survey of potential allergens, and more. Please enjoy, and I would be glad to hear any feedback or suggestions at againes/at/oceansidepubl.com.
