RE: “LONG-TERM USE OF β-CAROTENE, RETINOL, LYCOPENE, AND LUTEIN SUPPLEMENTS AND LUNG CANCER RISK: RESULTS FROM THE VITAMINS AND LIFESTYLE (VITAL) STUDY”

The authors have discovered some errors in their recently published paper (1). Specifically, in the Discussion section, the first half of the second sentence of the fifth paragraph should read as follows: “Although there were only 20 lung cancer cases in the individual lutein supplement use category, the respective mean and median daily doses among users were 1.5 mg (standard deviation, 0.7) and 1.0 mg.” The authors would also like to add the following statement: “The typical dose of lutein in individual supplements at the time the study was conducted was 20 mg, and the typical dose in multivitamins that contained lutein was 0.25 mg.”

The authors and the Journal regret the errors and the oversight.
