AP Andreev .  Vascular Diseases and Applied Vascular Surgery.  Sofia, Bulgaria:  Znanie Ltd,  2007. ISBN  978-954-621-234-4;  179 pages.

The book entitled Vascular Diseases and Applied Vascular Surgery, written by Dr Andreia P Andreev, is 179 pages long, and has 188 figures and 29 chapters. This book starts with an overview of vascular anatomy, atherosclerosis, vascular examinations and vascular imaging techniques. Following this section, major known vascular diseases, including Buerger’s disease, diabetic vascular foot abnormalities, thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms, arterial aneurysms, extracranial cerebrovascular disease, limb ischemia, deep vein thrombosis, varicose veins and thoracic outlet syndrome are addressed. Various surgical modalities, including vascular grafts, endovascular techniques, stents and stent grafts for the treatment of vascular diseases, are discussed. A full chapter in this book is devoted to the follow-up, postoperative medication and complications after vascular and endovascular procedures. A single book cannot adequately cover every aspect of a subject as extensive as vascular disease. However, this book gives an overview of vascular disease from a different perspective. All the major points, such as vascular pathology, signs and symptoms, investigative tools and surgical treatments, have been discussed at length in a very straightforward manner. The illustrations are outstanding and easy to understand. Particular emphasis has been placed on ensuring a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of surgical technologies and references.

Vascular Diseases and Applied Vascular Surgery provides a comprehensive assessment of the topic of vascular diseases from bench to bedside, providing in-depth underlying pathology and surgical management. Credit must be given to Dr Andreev, who showed his talent and dedication in writing this book. This book is very useful to those who wish to broaden their knowledge of vascular diseases, and thereby help patients afflicted with vascular diseases. It will be useful for vascular surgeons, clinicians, interns, residents, scientists and related health care professionals who practice their many disciplines in the large and expanding field of vascular disease and vascular surgery. This book will also be useful to health planners from academia, industry and government.
