AES modulates multisensory integration (A) directly via monosynaptic inputs; (B) directly and indirectly via polysynaptic contacts on both interneurons and output neurons and (C) indirectly via polysynaptic contacts on interneurons that, in turn, contact presumptive multisensory output neurons.
