Cancer.Net offers patient-friendly materials summarizing the new research highlighted at the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium, which was held September 5-7 in Washington, DC. In a special edition of the newsletter, Cancer Advances: News for Patients from the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium, Cancer.Net provides summaries of the meeting highlights. In addition, the latest ASCO Expert Corner—an ongoing question-and-answer series of articles that taps into the expertise of ASCO's membership—provides information about breast cancer research and treatment. Also, Cancer.Net Podcasts offer the symposium highlights in prerecorded audio files that can be listened to online or downloaded free of charge.
These new materials can be found online at www.cancer.net/breastsymposium.
ASCO Cancer Education Slides (formerly called Cancer.Net Slide Decks) are customizable PowerPoint presentations on the 22 most common cancer types designed for oncologists, oncology nurses, and other health-care professionals to use when giving lectures or community presentations. The presentations are based on the popular Guides to Cancer and provide reliable, oncologist-approved cancer information. The latest additions to this series include cervical and testicular cancer.
ASCO Cancer Education Slides are available at www.cancer.net/slidedecks.
ASCO is joining forces with five other national cancer organizations for the television event and multimedia education campaign, Frosted Pink with a Twist, meant to raise awareness of cancers that primarily affect women and inspire the public to learn more about early detection, prevention, and advances in cancer care and treatment. The event will take place during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Cohosted by Mary Lou Retton, Frosted Pink with a Twist will highlight stars of the men's and women's U.S. Olympic Gymnastics teams.
Frosted Pink with a Twist will air nationally on ABC from 4:00 to 6:00 pm EST on Sunday, October 12, 2008.
