PLWC Expands Resources

PLWC recently added detailed patient information on six skin cancer–related syndromes:

  • Familial malignant melanoma
  • Neurofibromatosis type 1
  • Neurofibromatosis type 2
  • Tuberous sclerosis
  • Werner syndrome
  • Xeroderma pigmentosum

Each section includes an overview of the syndrome, its causes, related statistics, diagnosis and screening information, facts about cancer risk, and a list of questions to ask the doctor. During the past year, PLWC has added information on a total of 30 cancer-related syndromes, which can be found in the Cancer Types section at

Clinical Trials Information in Spanish Now on PLWC

It is now easier for patients who speak Spanish to learn about cancer clinical trials. Located in the PLWC en Español section ( or, the six translated sections include information about clinical trials, patient safety, phases of clinical trials, deciding to participate in a clinical trial, questions to ask the research team, and finding a clinical trial. In addition, this section contains translated information for 19 common types of cancer.

Expanded Slide Deck Series Features 10 Leading Cancer Types

Customizable slide decks on the 10 most common cancer types are being added to PLWC for oncologists, oncology nurses, and other health care professionals to use when giving lectures or community presentations. The slide decks are based on the popular and recently updated PLWC Guides to Cancer and provide reliable, oncologist-approved cancer information in a turnkey PowerPoint presentation. ASCO Expert Corner Series Launched for Patients

In January, PLWC launched the ASCO Expert Corner series, a new Q&A format, as part of its Features section. In each article, an ASCO member will answer five questions about a timely cancer topic. PLWC Associate Editor Maurie Markman, MD, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, Texas), answered five questions about the human papillomavirus (HPV)/cervical cancer vaccine in the first column in this series.

The ASCO Expert Corner is the latest addition to the library of PLWC Features, which total more than 120 articles and can be found at A new feature is posted every Monday.
