Raising the quality of biomedical journals

The Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), an international organisation, was founded in 1997 by a group of medical journal editors concerned about misconduct and ethical issues. It is now applying for charitable status, with the goal of educating and advancing knowledge in methods of safeguarding the integrity of the scientific record.

COPE is now looking for up to three members to join a council that is responsible for policy and management. They will be expected to attend four meetings a year, plus occasional strategy meetings and an annual seminar. COPE is particularly interested in those who have specialist expertise. This is a voluntary position but expenses will be met.

Further details can be found on the website:

Those who are interested should send a CV plus a covering letter stating what they will be able to contribute to COPE Council. Please email to the COPE Administrator, Linda Gough (, or by post to Linda Gough, PO Box 39, Harleston, IP20 9WR, UK.

The closing date for applications is 3 December 2007
