Frederick Ewart Cull

Frederick Ewart Cull (“Freddy”) trained initially in pharmacy at University College Nottingham, graduating in 1935. He then funded his medical training at Edinburgh, working part time as a pharmacist. When he was a house officer at Scarborough Hospital he met and subsequently married the theatre sister, Holly. In 1947 they went to Leigh to do a three month locum in general practice but stayed on for 26 years. He was always dedicated to his patients, particularly enjoying domiciliary obstetrics. He retired in 1973 and moved back to Scarborough three years later. After Holly died in 1986, he remained in Scarborough for a further 20 years, moving to a care home in Edinburgh in 2006. He was a gifted musician, playing piano and organ from his teenage through to his 80s. He is survived by his son and two granddaughters.
