After qualifying Geoffrey Brooke Hirst was posted to West Africa. He ran the tropical medicine clinic serving the local population of Soccatoo.
He moved to Suez and became the medical officer of the 7th Battalion Rifle Brigade, which moved across the desert to Tripoli, thence to Sicily, Italy, and Rome.
On returning to the United Kingdom he became a popular practitioner, a trainer, and a police surgeon in the Stockport area of Cheshire.
He was a member of the local medical committee and made a life member.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Gillian, and leaves his wife, Joyce Mary.
