After his national service in the Royal Air Force, Robert George FitzPatrick (“Bob”) qualified in medicine. He did house jobs in the Victoria Infirmary, Southern General Hospital, and Lennox Castle Hospital. He trained as a general practitioner in Glasgow, and worked in Spennymoor and Lincoln before moving to a partnership in the Kildrum Health Centre in the new town of Cumbernauld in 1966. He was greatly admired and respected for his commitment to the town and for his gentle and caring approach to the needs of his patients. He retired in 1991. In his spare time he was a voracious reader of history. He enjoyed good food and spending time with his family. He leaves his wife, Margaret; six children; and eight grandchildren.
