Following service with the Royal Army Medical Corps, Cyril Haxton moved to Clacton in 1953 to join another general practitioner as his junior partner. Specialising in gynaecology and obstetrics, he worked in the maternity home and local hospital in Clacton. He had an interest in psychiatry, and was part of a multidisciplinary panel working with Dr Richard Fox, consultant psychiatrist at Severalls Hospital based in Colchester. Cyril was a member of Edinburgh Graduate Association and of the Colchester Medical Society. His practice grew over the years, and on his retirement in the mid-1980s there were seven partners. In retirement Cyril pursued his interests in information technology and remained a keen fly fisherman when holidaying in Scotland. He leaves three daughters, four grandchildren, and a great grandson.
