HSR Impact Award: Call for Nominations

Deadline: July 28, 2006

AcademyHealth requests nominations of health services research that has made a positive impact on health policy and/or practice. The lead researcher of the winning impact will receive $2,000, and the research will be disseminated widely as part of AcademyHealth's ongoing efforts to promote the field of health services research and communicate its value for health care decision-making. The award will be announced at the 2007 National Health Policy Conference on February 12–13, and the winner will receive complimentary registration, travel and lodging to the conference.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Research may be published or unpublished, a single study or a body of work, the work of an individual or a team.
  • Time frame for when the research was conducted is open, but the impact should have occurred recently.
  • Nominators and nominees are not required to be AcademyHealth members.
  • Self-nominations will be accepted.

Selection Criteria

Each nomination will be evaluated on:

  • Quality of research.
  • Effectiveness of research dissemination and translation approach.
  • Impact of the research.

Application

Each nomination must include:

  • Summary describing the research used, the translation approach, and the impact on policy and/or practice (no more than 500 words; do not include charts, appendices, or attachments).
  • Letter of recommendation from the principal user of this research specifically showing the impact the research has had (no more than 500 words; only one letter is permitted).
  • Form with contact information for the lead researcher and the nominator (may be the same person). This form is available on the AcademyHealth Website at http://www.academyhealth.org/awards/hsrimpacts.htm.

Nominations may be sent to AcademyHealth by mail, e-mail or fax. Only complete nominations that comply with the application instructions will be reviewed. Nominations must be received at AcademyHealth by Friday, July 28, 2006. Nominators will be notified by October 31, 2006.

AcademyHealth and NCHS Name 2006 Health Policy Fellows

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and AcademyHealth are pleased to announce the selection of Adele Kirk and Susan Lin as the recipients of the 2006–2007 NCHS/AcademyHealth Health Policy Fellowships. In its fourth year, the fellowship provides researchers access to new data resources and strengthens their opportunities to understand health policy. Fellows work in residence at the NCHS in Hyattsville, MD on their proposed research projects as well as on collaborative projects with NCHS staff for a period of 13 months.
